Champions Program

The rOpenSci Champions Program is designed to identify, recognize, and support passionate individuals from underrepresented groups who are eager to contribute to the open source and research software communities. This initiative aims to foster a diverse and inclusive environment where all members can thrive.

Program Objectives

  • Empowerment: Equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute effectively to open source projects.
  • Mentorship: Provide personalized guidance and support through experienced mentors in the rOpenSci community.
  • Community Building: Create opportunities for participants to connect, share experiences, and collaborate with others in the field.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Promote the participation of individuals from underrepresented groups in the open source and research software communities.

How to Participate

The program offers a structured pathway for involvement, including:

  • Training: A series of workshops and resources focused on technical skills, open source best practices, and community engagement.
  • Project Development: Participants can choose to develop a new package, submit an existing package for review, or become a reviewer in the rOpenSci peer review system.
  • Mentorship: Personalized guidance and support from experienced mentors throughout the program.
